Inorganic Pigments
Inorganic pigments are colorants derived from mineral sources or synthesised through chemical processes involving metals and non-metal elements. They are widely used due to their durability, chemical stability, weather resistance, and opacity.
- Excellent lightfastness
- High heat resistance
- Good chemical resistance
- Non-bleeding and non-migrating
- Generally more stable than organic pigments
Organic Pigments
Organic pigments are coloured materials made primarily from carbon-based molecules. Unlike inorganic pigments (which are often metal-based, like titanium dioxide or iron oxide), organic pigments are derived from organic compounds - molecules based on carbon, hydrogen, and other non-metal elements.
- Colour strength: Generally have high tinting strength and vibrant, brilliant colours.
- Transparency: Often more transparent than inorganic pigments.
- Lightfastness: Some organic pigments can be less resistant to light and weather (though high-performance grades are available).
- Solubility: Insoluble in water and solvents (unlike dyes, which are soluble).
- Particle size: Fine particles that can influence gloss and transparency.
